At an informal lunch over a hearty roast, State Member for Bass Brian Paynter MP introduced Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Water, Peter Walsh MP, to a group of farmers at Kernot Store.
The lunch was an opportunity to catch up with farmers in the region and discuss issues impacting them right now.
Peter Walsh spoke about the current dairy crisis. Some farmers were concerned for young farmers without any equity in their property.
The message from Peter Walsh was to keep the pressure on Murray Goulburn and Fonterra to reverse these devastating price cuts
Another issue of concern was the deal by Daniel Andrews that could see control of Australia’s largest volunteer organisation, the CFA, handed to the United Firefighters Union (UFU). The farmers are appalled that the needs of our local volunteer firefighters are being neglected.
Quotes attributable to Brian Paynter, Member for Bass
Kernot Store is a terrific location for me to catch up with local farmers. Peter Walsh joining me to speak about issues relating to the farmers personally was welcomed.
Peter has a wealth of knowledge to pass on to the farmers and they seemed to really enjoy the day.
I look forward to meeting with the farmers again soon. It’s always an enjoyable way to connect with people who don’t come into town often.
