Get Victoria Moving: Duplicating Berwick – Cranbourne Road

The Liberal Nationals will help get traffic back under control in the City of Casey by duplicating the Berwick – Cranbourne Road from Thompsons Road to Narre Warren – Cranbourne Road.
Melbourne is jam packed with a population of five million and growing by 2,700 people a week with much of that growth occurring in places like Cranbourne and Clyde North.
With the City of Casey growing an average of 14,000 people per year, from 283,215 in 2014 to 327,380 in 2017, it is vital that we find a solution to the congestion on our roads.

That’s why the Liberals will duplicate 6.4 km of Berwick – Cranbourne Road to ensure traffic keeps moving during peak times. The cost of constructing the road is $130 million.

Daniel Andrews says we have to accept that Melbourne’s population will hit 8 million people in the next three decades. He thinks we can fit another 3 million people into Melbourne’s suburbs.
I don’t accept that.
As Premier I will get back in control of population growth.
Daniel Andrews has allowed out of control, unchecked population growth choke our streets and growth areas like Cranbourne and Clyde North are feeling the effects.

We must ensure that newly growing suburbs are connected and get ahead of road infrastructure needs and get them done earlier than ever before.

That’s why we have a comprehensive plan to get back in control of population growth in our growth suburbs and ensure there are enough roads, rail, schools and hospitals to service new communities.

The Liberal Nationals will fund the construction by adding the duplication of Berwick – Cranbourne Road to the existing South Eastern Roads Package funded in the 2018 State Budget.
The South Eastern Roads Package will now include eight arterial roads in this area.
This commitment builds on the Liberal Nationals commitment to extend the metropolitan train line to Clyde, taking more cars off the road and easing the congestion squeeze.
With the Liberals, we will provide Infrastructure Plus – what is being built will be built, plus we will also duplicate Berwick – Cranbourne Road.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Liberal Party, Matthew Guy:
“At this election, Victorians will have a clear choice.

Victorians can choose more of the same catch-up, band-aid ideas from Daniel Andrews, or they can choose my comprehensive plan to invest in vital infrastructure projects like duplicating our major arterial roads.”
