State Member for Bass, Brian Paynter MP, is fuming at a near miss at the McGregor Road crossing that could have resulted in a fatality.
It was reported to Mr Paynter’s office that on Thursday 4 February at 3.45pm, traffic was sitting at the McGregor Road crossing while several Metro trains passed and a VLine train to Melbourne was waiting.
After a long wait, the Metro trains passed then the boom gates went up, along with the pedestrian boom gates. The cars began to move across the level crossing but the VLine was on its way through.
Quotes attributable to Brian Paynter, Member for Bass
This crossing is mayhem at the best of times but this is crazy.
Although I understand the frustration for people waiting for the boom gates to go up, this could have been a disaster with people moving across the tracks because the boom gates signalled it was clear to go when in fact there was a train coming. Not good enough.
I am continually contacted by local residents who complain about the McGregor Road rail crossing.
In December I attended the Heritage Springs Residents Association Christmas party and I had many residents speak to me about the need for the McGregor Road crossing to be fixed. Sometimes it can take up for 30 minutes to get from Henry Road to the highway, on one road. That is ridiculous.
