MINISTER FOR WATER STATES IN PARLIAMENT ‘RAIN EVENTS DO NOT EQUATE TO STORAGE INCREASE’

In an extraordinary claim in parliament yesterday the Minister for Water Lisa Neville stated

‘Let us be really clear about this: rain events do not equate to storage increases, and in fact we have not had one increase in our storage since 25 November’.

Well if the Minister for Water doesn’t understand that our water storages rely on ‘rain events’ to fill then Victorians are in real trouble. It certainly explains why the Minister has wasted $27 million on an order for water when our catchments sit at 66.7% which is up from 63.7% from last year.

The Minister’s statement that our storages have not increased since November is hardly a surprise. We’ve just got through summer!

“The Minister has really embarrassed herself, she only has to look at historic records to see it’s only in very wet summers that Melbourne’s storages would increase.”

“Melbourne Water’s own public data shows that the storages start declining from around November in an average year, and start filling again around June the next year”

The Ministers statements were in response to my call to cancel the water order.
