State Member for Bass, Brian Paynter MP, was the guest speaker at the Koo Wee Rup Remembrance Day service on Friday 11 November.
Mr Paynter paid tribute to his Great Uncle Martin Augustin Barry, one of the fortunate soldiers to return home to his family, including his sister Alice, Mr Paynter’s much loved grandmother.
School children from Koo Wee Rup and neighbouring schools took part in the service. There were awards given to six students by Mr Paynter and Cardinia Shire’s new Councillor, Cr Ray Brown. The students were awarded for showing leadership and mateship.
Koo Wee Rup Secondary College year 11 students and two teachers sung an emotional charged Paul Kelly song, Meet me in the middle of the Air.
Wreaths and poppies were laid by community groups and organisations and schools.

It was terrific to see so many school students, community groups including Koo Wee Rup CWA and Scouts.
The Koo Wee Rup RSL committee do an outstanding job at bringing the community together for these special occassions. I congratulate them on their efforts.
