If you have driven on Phillip Island Road in the past week, you would have noticed the speed signs have now been brought into this century.
Cape Woolamai resident and State Member for Bass, Brian Paynter MP, noticed when driving off the island each day that the metal school speed signs in Newhaven were being unlocked several times each day and the speed from 60 to 40 km/hr. The sign was outdated, time consuming and dangerous for the school crossing supervisor.
Quotes attributable to Brian Paynter MP, Member for Bass:
I wrote to and spoke to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Hon Luke Donellan requesting the signage to be changed and it has now happened.
The new signs are clearly marked with times the 40km speed is in place. The signs are easy to see from each direction.
