Residents will be spared the blight of SkyRail under a plan by the Liberal Nationals to remove three level crossings in Pakenham.
Pakenham is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Victoria and because Daniel Andrews has lost control of population growth, rail services are stressed to the limit and congestion is growing worse by the day.
SkyRail would ruin liveability without giving residents any more control over their lives.
The Liberal Nationals have a comprehensive infrastructure plan that will not destroy Pakenham by imposing the blight of SkyRail on the local community.
Level crossings should be removed properly, once and for all.
A Liberal Nationals Government will remove three level crossings in Pakenham. A Liberal Nationals Government will not use SkyRail to remove them.
The level crossings at McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road will be removed under a Liberal Nationals Government. The removal of level crossings at Racecourse Road and Main Street will be undertaken as part of the removal of the intersections under the Liberal Nationals intersection removal program. This will simplify traffic flow at the Main Street, Railway Avenue and Henty Street intersections and also grade separate the intersection at Racecourse Road and Bald Hill Road.
Additionally, a Liberal Nationals Government will rebuild Pakenham Station as part of its plan to build high-speed rail to the Latrobe Valley.
Developing high-speed rail to the Latrobe Valley will include building extra tracks to separate the suburban and regional train networks between Pakenham and Caulfield. This will involve changes to the Pakenham Station which is the appropriate time to rebuild the Pakenham Station. All level crossing removals will account for the future provision of these extra tracks.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Davis:
“SkyRail is not a solution, it’s an ugly scar on the community.
Only the Liberal Nationals will remove these level crossings and spare the public the intrusion of SkyRail.”
Comments attributable to Member for Bass, Brian Paynter:
“When I’m out doorknocking around Pakenham, residents are continually concerned by out of control population growth and the resulting traffic congestion.
These crossings will be removed by the Liberals and they will be done right.”
