Proposed changes to Phillip Island Road through both San Remo and Newhaven have
generated much discussion by locals, many of whom are clearly not happy with the options
put forward by VicRoads.
Having met with many local people including business owners and residents, the options
presented either have major flaws or attempt to fix a problem that does not exist.
The Andrews Labor Government cut the country roads and bridges programme when coming
to office in 2014 and our local roads have suffered as a result. Instead of funding studies, the
government should simply get on with funding what is actually needed right now. A good place
to start would be funding the Back Beach Road intersection heading towards Smiths Beach.
This intersection is dangerous at the best of times and creates a major bottleneck during peak
periods and major events.
The Andrews Government needs to stop wasting time and money on planning projects that
are not needed and get on with addressing the traffic problems that currently exist.

‘What we need right now are the roundabouts at Woolamai Beach Road and Back Beach
Road on Phillip Island built. Not more studies’.
‘Abandoning the successful country roads and bridges programme was a major blow to our
local roads. The Andrews Government discontinued the programme and in turn abandoned
people living in country Victoria including Phillip Island’.
